I can't express myself correctly. I don't know how, but I have deep thoughts and feelings and dont know how to express them. I would love to learn to express myself and feelings through pencils, paints, and words. I don't understand how to do so though. Please give me some ideas...

  1. Kudos to you for wanting to do this! I would recommend reading as much as you can, as widely as possible, and also studying paintings, etc., all of which can be done basically for free at your local library. The more you read, and see, the more ideas you'll have-not, of course, to use as they are, but to inspire you. I recommend the illustrated works of William Blake as a great place to start-try Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. Have fun!

  2. Don't force it - and never assume that your way of expressing things is 'wrong'. Picasso didn't paint or draw like Raphael, but he got his 'point' across. T S Eliot's poetry seemed pretty weird and non-sensical to some people - and to others it was a revelation.

Anyone, absolutely anyone, can write - it may not be Shakespeare, but it's your right and a good place to start. Practice helps - and the more experience you gain of other people who you think express themselves well, the more you'll be able to learn from them and emulate their style.

In short, don't feel you have to earn the right to express yourself - do it and enjoy the experince of perfecting the way you do it.

  3. Start dabbling!

Do automatic writing and drawing. start to write and do not censer your thoughts, just put down anything on paper, even if the words aren't real words. Force your self to do this for 10 minutes strait with out stopping. It really helps! It's amazing to see what you can do when you disassociate your self and let your creativity take over. Do it with drawings too. Don't even look at  the paper, just keep moving your pen how ever you want for 10 minutes.

Research other artist and art movements. Its guaranteed to give you some ideas. Don't ever start something and not finish it or not do something because it's not "original" enough. That's guaranteed to lead to more creative brain freeze.

  4. i could suggest taking classes but right now i think it's important you don't learn to draw within the lines if you get what i mean. Draw or write whatever is on your mind! if your angry sometimes a deep scribble on a paper will sufice!

my top suggestion is however is finding an interesting friend that you can conversate these feelings with.
