I have a family friend that teaches a Graduate's course on Autism, she is a special ed teacher, etc.

I think I have autism. I'm DEFINITELY on the scale.

I'm intelligent (I don't want to go into details to keep my identity safe, but this is an understatement).

I often find socializing difficult, it ALWAYS leads to me getting carried away and once I lose focus, and I end up losing a friend, etc.

I can't sit during a class without turning a handout into a collage of doodles.

I am often stubborn and cranky. (Okay, I admitted it already...)

I have sensory issues, I am constantly having to donate clothes away because the fibers change after being washed and I can't touch them.

I get angry at the people closest to me.

I am constantly frustrated.

In my early years of life I was DD (developmentally delayed.)

The list goes on, but I don't know what to believe.

  1. you should go to your doctor and talk to him about getting a psychiatrist as they are the best at making the desicion about autism and when you are born they DO NOT test for autism because they cannont there are not enough indicatiors try reading some of Tony Attwoods articles I myself have A.S., you should definitley get a doctor do the exam because there are more diagnosises as Autism is often used to describe the Autism Spectrum Disorder, some examples are; Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Asperger Syndrome, highly functioning Autism, Low functioning Autism

if you have not looked already take a peek at the wikipedia site and type in Autism Spectrum Disorder. but be careful if a doctor starts telling you to take medications they may affect more than just the side affects but they can interfere with allot. do you live in canada or the US i have some support places in canada that may help you if you live here?

I am also in school and i am in a modified ASD class you should check if your school has one

  2. Allyson, Some of your symptoms do sound a lot like autism.  However, they also sound similar to those of ADHD, OCD, and other anxiety disorders. The best thing to do would be to see a psychiatrist or psychologist.  They can do further testing and they may be able to help you with some behavioral therapy that can help you with your attention span, the clothing thing, and your anger.  Good luck!

  3. Those sound like some symptoms of autism. But to be sure, you should go to the doctor to check that out. It won't hurt you. There is a theory right now that autism is caused by vaccines which affect some people with weaker immune systems. I actually believe this theory and thats why Im getting a vaccine waiver from my school so I don't have to take them . But definitely go to the doctor and see what they tell you and if you have it, don't get anymore vaccines and treat your body well.

  4. You may want to ask your parents to get you evaluated by a speech pathologist. It's probably not autism because you were abble to type of that, but it could be a number of other things.

You can find an slp at www.asha.org

  5. it's possible-many adults are finding out now taht they have autism/aspergers

sometiems a person has a child diagnosed with autsim and tehn they find out they have it too!
