I think I have ruined my camera...? I took a picture of the sun.?

I have a digital camera, and when I take pictures it turns out black, but only sometimes. I think that I may have taken a picture which had the sun in it when it was very bright.

Will my camera ever work again, or can I buy something, or take it to a shop to fix it?

Even if you had it in night shot mode, taking a picture of the sun shouldn't have ruined the sensor.  You said it the pictures are black sometimes.  What about the other times?
