It hurts, a lot when I walk. And all I want to do is get it checked out by a doctor, to see if something is the matter. because people I know told me you probably have a slight or normal sprain. I've been walking slow because it hurts sooo bad.I usually walk fast and I have been stumbling/falling a lot.Its kinda darker than it normally is. And a little bigger. I can't run. (12 year old girl here btw)

My mom doesn't believe me! How can I get her to believe me? It freaking hurts.

  1. A home remedy to help it heal & feel better- you could soak it in epsom salt+warm water. And try to keep it levitated with an ice pack on it.

  2. I am not sure as to why your mother does not believe you but just show her your ankle. If you sprained it, it must be at least swollen.

  3. if it's swollen and is darker in color (or bruised) more than the other then you most likely pulled a muscle or sprained the muscle.  Elevation when you're not walking is good, also try a cold pack  - both will help reduce swelling.  Other than that, it will take some time to heal.  If swelling continues (as in it swells up to a half size or whole size more than the original size of your foot) then you should have a doctor look at it - just your family practicioner as it's not an emergency.

also - wrap a tensor on it when you're going to be walking to help support your ankle and avoid running

  4. Have your school nurse examine it. Maybe your mother will believe her!

  5. keep cold ice on it for a long period of time. i pulled a muscle and i had the same thing that u had on my leg and my coach told me to have an ice pack on it for a month. don't walk too much, and definetly don't run, it will hurt and keep it from healing it!

    hope this helped

  6. Maybe your mom may believe you if you put on a "regular" shoe (not a sneaker) and show her how much more swollen your one ankle is compared to the other.

I don't know why some moms do that - my mother would never believe me when I told her that I was hurt/in pain.  Even when other people would take me to the ER - she would just get mad at me... things like allergies to bees, high fevers, dislocated knees, etc.... she wouldn't believe that I was hurt - it was weird.

Do the best that you can to take care of yourself - elevate the leg (make the ankle higher than your heart), ice it for at least 20 minutes at a time (20 min of cold, then take off the cold, then 20 min on, etc..) for the next couple of days, wrap it really tight with bandages (or socks or towels) to help get the swelling down (but not so tight that it cuts off your circulation - you're trying to push the fluids/swelling out of the joint, not create a tourniquet!

I hope that you feel better!  Do your best to take care of YOU because it's clear that you're not in a nurturing home.

    Good Luck!
