I was at band camp and at night I was walking around in some tall grass and I felt liked I had been pricked by a needle. There was no stinger, that I saw. My ankle swelled up, so they iced it and gave me some benadryl. The swelling went down. It has been a week later, and now my ankle has swelled up really badly. Any advice??

  1. Doesn't sound like a burrowing bee, it's probably some sort of allergic reaction if it reacted so promptly to benadryl. Just get in soon, see a doctor if you can. I wouldn't be too worried, if you can bear wait and it isn't bleeding or anything terrible you're probably fine.

  2. I have been keeping honey bees for several years now and i feel pretty confident about answering this one. Some form of benidryl or antihistamine will help with the itching and possibly the swelling if taken soon after the sting. You will receive lots of input about thinngs like meat tendorizer, tobacco, baking soda an other topical treatments. they are all just wives tales. I have tried and none seam to work. the venom of a wasp is different than that of a honey bee. a honey bees venom is an irritant used to defend the hive while a wasps venom is used to kill its prey. My best advice is to not rub or scratch and let it run its course. it is normal for it to be sore for a coupel of days

I have had stings itch and be sore for as little as a few minuts or as long as a weak

  3. I would defiantly have a doctor look at it. If it is still swollen after a week it someone should look at it.

  4. see a dr

  5. It needs to be seen by the doc.

  6. That probably not normal but it could be something other than a burrowing bee based on the details you gave us.  Just about anything can be waiting to sting and bite you in tall grass at night.

See a doctor but I wouldn't worry too much about it.

    Band Camp???
