“I think I’ve gotten used to seeing moves made fairly late,” says Yankees manager Joe Girardi
The American League East baseball franchise is considered one of the most feared teams in the Major League Baseball but with some recent offseason moves, their management is not looking much optimistic for the next big event.
The New York Yankees earlier wanted to add some potential pitchers in this offseason as their two most talented and experienced pitchers Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera can no longer hold the franchise’s pitching responsibilities on their own.
The Yankees top management has recently attended 2012 Major League Baseball’s annual Winter Meetings in Nashville but even in Nashville they could not find any good deal to bring some more pitchers in the roster.
“I think I’ve gotten used to seeing moves made fairly late, From the internal discussions that we had, we’re going to have people in place by the time spring training is here.  Of course, everyone wants to know right now, what are the Yankees going to be,
and who are they going to be in 2013?  But I don’t get too worried about it. If it was February 4th, February 5th, I’d be a little bit more worried if those people weren’t in place,” manager Joe Girardi said in Nashville.
Along with good pitchers, the Yankees management also want to retain some of their experienced players who now are free agents.
Right fielder Nick Swisher is one of them. On the other hand, they lost Russell Martin when they were outbid by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Another experienced player Alex Rodriguez is also expect to miss the first half of 2013 Major League Baseball season due
to his hip surgery.
These all facts make things tougher for the Yankees to show a spirited performance. To see every player’s stats, experts believe that Swisher, Rodriguez and Martin all possess world class numbers.
Martin, who now will be playing for the Pirates, last averaged with the Yankees at .211 hitting average along with 21 homers, 53 RBIs and .311 OBP.
Swisher, who is currently a free agent, had a good last season with the Yankees in which he averaged .272 hitting average along with 24 homers, 93 RBIs and .364 OBP.
