mom swears that everyone she meets it out to find out information about her and she thinks everyone she knows know somebody else that she knows and that peopl drive by the house to see if she is home, etc. She thinks that spam email is email someone who hacked into her computer is sending her. She is in the house 24/7 and only leaves to go church and she also swears god tells her things in the middle f the night and it's some sort of revelation.

I don't know what to do. Can this eventually become dangerous? Her mother had a mental illness too. I'm also worried for myself... How can I make sure I don't end up paranoid like her? I don't believe anything she says about the people spying on her etc.. But I just want to be safe.

  1. Yes your mom is paranoid.  You should tell your teacher at school.  That way your mom will have to get the help she needs.

  2. Sounds like she should see a doctor, to be evaluated, maybe she has Bi Polar Disorder.  My daughters friend went through something similar, she thought everyone  was out to get her.  It got progressively worse, until she had to be hospitalized.  Now after a year of therapy and taking medication and is doing so much better.

  3. Wow, that must be a lot to put up with, and I think you are correct to worry about her state of mind.  Mental illness tends to be hereditary, but is often treatable with medication.

Your mother says she hears voices, which is a sign of schizophrenia; the paranoia is a component of that illness as well.  She could be a danger to herself, or to others.

I am sure you have seen cases in the news where people have listened to those voices and killed their kids or even strangers on the street.

Your safety, and your mom's safety is at risk; please call a doctor or even 911 to get her seen.  If you call 911 and tell the police your mom is hearing voices, they will send an ambulance and take her to a hospital for an evaluation.

Good luck--and know that others do care about you.

  4. I think she's been smoking too much weed...

  5. how old is your mom i would take her to a doctor. and if its genetics there really isn't much you can do to prevent it. just recognize the signs and try not to believe yourself.

  6. You need to start taking meds and have a doctor look at her. This could be very dangerous in the future if God tells her to do something and she does it. i.e. hurting herself or what not..

You need to call someone to help her and it's never too soon to start taking meds now. Good luck.

  7. It does sound like your mom is exhibiting signs of mental illness, such as schizophrenia.  And it's genetic.  Is there anyone you can talk with about your mom's behavior?  I wish you didn't have to endure this on your own.  You can protect yourself by going to the doctor at least once a year and reporting any change in mood or behavior in youself.  I hope everything works out for you and your family!!
