Like he dominated with his impressive skills but his opponents werent THAT good. Maybe i am underrating him but his high profile opponents were a "Green" Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Virgil Hill, One Antonio Tarver a way past his prime Trinidad and so on. What do you guys think?

  1. I agree and even when fighting Trinidad he didnt dominate him like he should have trinidad had 4 fights in 7 years and had a hard timeing making wieght and although knocking him down didnt hurt him his speed just out shined the match. Roy Jones had great talent but i would respect i fighter who seeks out the best much more like DLH who always has unlike Roy or Cotto who is willing to fight the best and biggest names if theyre willing. Julio Ceasar Chavez Jr career is very similar to Roys career in my opinion alot of wins against Journey mean fighters Roy fought a good fighter on avrege once out of every ten fights

  2. ...your resume of opponents isnt that great.

  3. Let's face it; we'd all feel alot better if he'd faced Tarver (early on), Calzaghe, Hopkins and Toney again, Jirov, Michelsheski (sic) and finally perhaps a Jermain Taylor. He COULD have and he DIDN'T. SO in the end, his reflexes, timing and power were obvious - none of us question that - but the things the old-timers consider to be GREAT attributes are lacking. Case closed.

  4. Roy Jones in his prime was amazing?

Roy Jones could never be considered amazing, the guy ducked every opponent that would lay waste to him.

Lmao, sure he looked great against fighters that were hand picked all of his boxing career.

  5. Corret. He was afraid of being hurt after a friend of his suffered brain damage while boxing, so he fought easier fighters. he beat some great fighters in the beginning of his career but fought less guys later in time

  6. Roy had to move from weight class to weight class, in his prime there was no stand out guy that people said Roy MUST fight him to secure his legacy, he should not be dissed for who he fought because he fought the best competition available

  7. Roy was the greatest 168lb fighter.  That was his prime.  He was super at 160 but didnt have the super opponents.   Sugar Ray Leonard is one fighter Roy is often compared to.  Their styles were actually very different.   They were both speed demons but little else is in common.

Unlike Leonard,  Roy never had the line-up of Super opponents nor the ability to determine "Who's next".  Leonard had Hearns, Duran, Benitez, Hagler and others.  They're all great fighters but they have one thing in common.  Sugar Ray holds at least one victory over each of them.

Flip it around and look at Hearns'  opponents/record and you will see some very impressive accomplishments.   Same for Hagler.

Roy has the TOOLS to beat Leonard at 160.  However, Leonard has the far more impressive resume.

  8. You are talking about the fighter that I think is the best fighter who ever lived. Before Jr. lost to Traver he never had a tuff fight h**l he was never hit. RJ shut out  James Tony one of the best defencive fighters of all time who was a world champion RJ knocked Virgil hill out with a single body punch it was beautiful RJ came off of both feet and hit Vinnie Pazz the second best left hook I have ever seen other than the great Joe Frazier's the one he knocked Ali down with. I,ve seen RJ beat great fighters with out throwing a single jab these things I am bring up man are unheard of.I,m begging you go back and look at RJ fights if you want to see what a fighter should look like. In our life time we will never see another fighter like him he was such a great athlete he once played in a pro basketball game in the afternoon and fought the same night ask any trainer would they let there fighter do that no way man. I know I sound excited because I am . I saw RJ fight when he was 12 years old he was as sound technely then as he is now I don,t know who coined the fraze the sweet science but if you ever saw RJ fight you saw what every trainer has tot rolled up into one fighter there,s been a couple of fighter who could do the things that RJ could do but it is a short list Ali,Ray Leonard grace speed power and beauty.

  9. Look at some of the opponents you named Bernard Hopkins was undefeated for like 10 years.   Virgil Hill was a silver medalist & only lost to Thomas Hearns before Roy KO'd him with a body shot.   James Toney was undefeated & that was pitted as the two best young middleweights.   All of these fights he won convincingly & easily.   Tarver caught Jones coming down from 205lbs to 175lbs & when Jones won but not impressive he wanted a rematch & Jones let his emotions get the best of him & simply got caught, by lucky Tarver.   Many great fighters lost to guys that weren't even in their class, examples Ali vs Spinks, Tyson vs Douglass, Lennox vs Rahman, Hearn vs Barkley & I could go on for days.   Tarver & Johnson caught Jones jr board with the fight game.   He had just won the heavyweight championship & was making his mark in boxing history.   He fought everyone that was available & almost all his fights weren't even close.   He is still in talks with Calzaghe as maybe the only fighter to give Calzaghe a fight.   He's 39 years old right now.   He might be one of the greatest Middle & lightheavyweights of all time.

  10. You are correct.
