  1. When will the anti hunt people get passed the un true part that it is only posh or rich people that hunt. I think you will find that the people in question are country people. And if the town folk would like to go and sort out the fox problem in a different way then be my guest. But i have a feeling that they don't have the capability.

  2. I think fox-hunting is cruel and barbaric, and should be left in the Middle Ages where it began.

Where do we draw the line on banning stuff though? Hunting is pretty much America's national sport, and animals are killed in cruel fashion all over the world, none more so than to feed us our daily portion of meat.

So, yes, ban fox hunting, but what next?

  3. foxes have never done anything, have they? a single fox will get into a chicken coop, kill every bird and not eat a single one. yes these delightful creature don't deserve the 3 second death that an average hunt gives it, lets just leave them for the traps etc. then they can look foreward to a nice slow painful death of starvation? you are a hypocrite to say its cruel then say you'd do the same to a rider. since hunting has been banned the foxes are everywhere, every rubbish bin is torn open i have seen them in a cafe bin! though only 3% of deaths were from hunting the foxes now have no reason to hide, they have gotten bolder which is why you can no lonnger drive down a road without seeing about 3 dead foxes. no i do not feel the same and no i am not a hunt member but i now many who are.

  4. i do it so cruel i mean why cant they do drag hunting.we had a debate in class whether fox hunting should stoped and in the end our sied one

  5. I am a horseperson and certified instructor of riding with more than 20 years experience, including some experience working with and training field hunters ( horses who are ridden in fox, stag, boar, and coyote hunts) One of my closest friends hunts, and I have known several other people who have "ridden to hounds" at one time or another. None of them is stupid ( the friend that I mentioned a moment ago is a physician with a thriving practice, in fact) and most of these people are NOT, as you put it, deliberately cruel. Hunting is a useful pasttime that serves many purposes- and many of the most popular hunts here in the US are DRAG hunts ( that is, a hunt in which a rider goes out alone on horseback and rides through the territory, dragging a bag soaked with fox urine behind him/her, about an hour or so before the hounds are cast and the main hunt starts) and there is NO, I repeat NO, killing of ANY animal involved !!!! Most of the hunts I have seen tend to follow this pattern, unless they are in a part of the country where this isn't practical, such as the desert southwest ( yes, there are hunts and hound packs there) or Alaska, Hawaii, or the Pacific Northwest. The hunts in these areas hunt coyote, or they are stag packs. A few of them have even been known to mistakenly get on the scent of a mountain lion, which usually is extremely dangerous for hounds, horses, and people alike. Fortunately, though, this is rather rare- and such a mistake rarely results in the lion dying, because lions are protected by federal law. Hunts do much more than keep the vermin population under control. They are great preservers of open space, farm and park land, which we ALL need. Hunts provide jobs and help to fuel the local economies in places where they are located- there are many businesses and organizations that could not exist without the local hunts. Companies that sell things like tack, feed, tools, and hunting/show attire could not exist without the hunt clubs. There's another side to this as well that idiots like you don't want to see or make an effort to understand, and that is this- many if not most of the Olympic Team members in certain of the equestrian sports ( like Eventing and Show Jumping, and to a lesser extent, the Modern Pentathalon) grew up riding to hounds and hunting as kids. There is NO better place to teach people how to safely ride and jump at speed than in the hunt field. All of our top Eventers have had experiences in the hunt field at one time or another in their careers, as have many of our top show jumpers and show hunters. In addition, many if not most of the customs that one typically sees in both the Olympics  and other top horse competitions had their origins in the hunting field. Braiding of horses' manes and tails is one of these, as is the choice of attire for most of the sports in the equestrian world.

A side note to all of this- The ONLY people who typically wear red in the hunt field ( and this is only if one of the official colors of the hunt is red, which incidentally is correctly called "scarlet", )are the master, the huntsman, and the whippers-in, and even then, they ONLY wear that color if they are MALE. Women DO NOT, as a rule, wear scarlet coats. Scarlet is also worn ONLY during the formal hunting season, which in most places in the US starts in late November and typically runs through about March. During the month of February, many of the hunts I am familiar with usually hold a formal ball or dance, and this is the major social event of the season. Hunting isn't just for adults- there are many kids who hunt as well. Called "Juniors" until they reach age 18, the kids ride at the rear of the hunt, and from the begining, they are taught manners and hunting etiquiette, which includes things like how to avoid getting in the way of the hunt staff. There are far too few sports these days that ever teach anything in the way of manners and good sportsmanship ( just take a look at all the fights that typically occur at the average Little League game for proof of this) that I think that hunting is a good thing for kids to do. Kids also learn respect for their horses and the natural world, which we need more of right now, not less of.  Finally, as a footnote to everything I have said, let me say now that I think that fox, stag, coyote, and boar hunts are no more cruel to the animals involved than what we typically do to our livestock every day. Would YOU want to spend your life cooped up in a narrow 6 foot box with a stanchion around your neck all the time? That is what we do to cattle to fatten them up for slaughter- and what we do to hogs, sheep, calves, horses ( yes, there are still slaughtering plants in this country, and they still do a thriving business) is even more inhumane, in my opinion. At least the fox, coyote, stag or boar has a chance to escape ( this is called "Going to Ground") in the hunting field and live to run another day. That is not true and will never be true with most of our livestock. Cruelty is as cruelty does- it's a matter of judgement and personal ethics. I do not believe that foxhunting is any more cruel than anything else we do in the name of sport or fashion.

  6. Yeah. The foxes do.

  7. More cruel then the animals put to torturous deaths to product test YOUR make-up and hair products?

Perhaps you should start your preaching on that pulpit first!!!

I respect the old traditions, regardless if I agree with them or not!

Only an idiot, calls other people idiots!

If it's so important to you become an activist instead of a whiner!!!

  8. Get over it!

  9. http://www.woodbrookhunt.com/   Our linky!  Have a look!!

(Before you diss ALL "fox hunting") ///// Middle Ages is the only place in USA you would find it. The UK, citizens have in place a "  no kill law" since 1998. Foxes (and  Neighbors!! ) dont like  a stampede through thier woods and fields either.  I think the lawyers and tree huggers did USA a favor..

We " yanks" don't even have/use terriers, just American Foxhounds.

I hear your passion, and perhaps if you join this orginazation you can help the UK  lawbreakers come out of the dark ages.

I've ridden to hounds for many years .. but before you rip me off my horse and.posh t**t kick etc. ya..  we do not have those "live" fox hunts here in the USA mate!  Nobody dies, its bs.\     >> ITS FAKE <<, just like the baggie the greyhounds chase is not a rabbit.

Its a drag scent: anise, liquid parafin, and a bit of urine from the zoo kept foxes Most of our pairs will gladly just follow anise and liquid paraffin. Somone with a good map and permits runs a 4 wheeler, dragging the "scent" and later the hounds will follow that. NO FOX!!  Just dogs aka Hounds  having a blast.. ( there is no fox!).

These "new" hunts are for fun: good hounds, incredible horses, tests of skill and orginazition, the pagentry of the olde days meets 21'st century laws, animal lovers, and insurance rates. We love animals, and we were born a good 100 years since anyone  rode to kill anything for fun. This is a whole new sport .. watch one before  you diss my fav weekend  outing! I think you'd enjoy it:)

Call us pompus if you will, its just well dressed men and women in the Black and Scarlet ,Pony Clubbers and and foot followers having a day out, A social,a party,a relaxing fun filled day, everyone having fun and swapping e mails and cell numbers, selling a pony or two, dining on some food we did not have to cook for once.

Check the pix of the "blessing of the hounds".. complete with bagpipes and clergy. Enjoy!

*There is a pair of foxes behind our west stable block near the creek, they had 3 kits last year and I do hope they do well this year too. Bloody spell checker isn't working.. /sigh.

*EDIT: I see some Americans bragging/telling lies about law breaking. Please send loc of your next blood event. Ta!*

  10. oh yes!!!! also the shooters killing pheasants they have reared just for the pleasure!! of killing them. then they all look so smug

  11. You really ought to check your facts before posting questions like this.

Firstly, only the Master and Hunstman wear red coats - this is to distinguish them from the rest of the hunt as they have a job to do.

Secondly, regardless of their "cute"looks a fox is vermin.  The main reason so many people claim to be anti-hunting is because they think that foxes are cute and cuddly.

The main purpose of hunting is to maintain the fox population at a healthy level, by removing the weak and old foxes.  Hunting takes place throughout the winter so as not to disturbe the birth of cubs in spring and summer.

More foxes are killed by cars every year than are killed by hunting, so lets ban cars!

For the record I have never had a days hunting in my life.

  12. Yeah, that would make my day.

There's something really stupid, not least inexcusibly cruel, about people who enjoy dressing up in brightly coloured coats to go careering through the countryside, blowing a horn and killing wild animals. What the bloody h**l did the foxes ever do to them?

  13. yep.............

  14. If a fox looked exactly like a rat......use your imagination here fox sized rat..picture the huge yellow rat teeth and that disgusting long rat tail....would all you ignorant folk still think the same way...I think not.

Foxes are vermin and need to be kept under control...wait until you townies start loosing pet cats and dogs, then you may have a change of mind...

foxes are lovely looking animals, but that said they are VERMIN!!!!

Try getting some facts together before putting c**p questions like this on the board!!!

  15. You are making ignorant generalizations about something you know nothing about.

    Look up "drag hunting"!
