It sounds like the syptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. It can be operated on to make life easier.

if it were in your wrist the tingling and numbness would go into your hand, not up your arm...more likely  you have a simple tendonitis.

Don`t want to worry you, but when l was young l was in a bad car accident and they said l`ll have problems in later life. It started with pins and needles around the thumb and started to spread across the hand and up the arm. It got so bad that l lost feeling in the hand, and l had to have an operation on my spine. Thankfully everything is nearly as good as new, but if l were you l`d seek medical guidance before it worsens. Hope you`re ok and it`s not as drastic as mine.
