We pooled our money and drove an hour and a half to the local blockbuster and rented four wonderful movies, only to realize, when we came home and attempted to open the dvd case, we found a yellow lock. we were so frustrated we cut open, and destroyed the dvd case. i am wondering what charges we will be faced with when we attempt to return the video.

  1. hahaha! You did not commit a federal crime, they are most likely only going to ask you to pay for the movie, or a fine of some sort so they can get a new box. I would not suggest just dropping it in the box to return it because they will contact you, I would be upfront about it. And why on Earth did you drive an hour and a half to blockbuster???????

  2. You shouldn't be in trouble at all.  It's their job to remove those locks before you leave as they are checking you out.  THEY are the ones who let you walk out with them like that.  I would have done the same thing.  Just explain THEIR mistake to them.  If you paid to rent them, then that infomation will be in the system to prove they weren't stolen so they can't try to say you did to cover their butts...  So, then that makes the situation THEIR fault and you shouldn't be in any kind of trouble.

  3. an hour and half to blockbuster???  where do you live, the alaskan wilderness???

i sincerely doubt it's a crime.  they will just ask you to replace the cases.

  4. You'll be charged for replacing the lock.  They are bits of plastic, not worth that much.

  5. They will charge you for the dvd so keep it.

  6. an hour and a half to drive to the local blockbuster to rent movies is a crime, do you realize how much you spent on gas and the carbon emissions(lol). Those must be some great movies.

Tell blockbuster its their fualt for not removing the locks and threaten to never shop there again if they charge you.

  7. 90 minutes to your local Blockbuster? That commute is more of a crime than what you did.  Just tell the clerk at the shop that you couldn't get it open and that you'd be happy to pay a replacement fee for the box if there is one (I doubt there is).  Even if you return it anonymously to the outdoor return box, the movie is still on the account.  If there is a fee, they will go ahead and tack it on to the account.  Either way, you may have to pay a fee, but it won't be much - certainly it will cost less than the gas you burned on that 90 minute commute.

  8. I came home from Blockbuster with a dvd that had the yellow lock on it as well.  I busted it open, watched the movie and returned it....

Nothing happen after that so don't worry about it.

It's not your fault the idiot didn't remove the lock.

  9. If you committed a crime at all, it's certainly not a federal one. More likely than not, it would be a civil matter only, and really, if you just told Blockbuster about it, they'd likely just ask for some money to pay for the box.

  10. Attempted murder. Second degree murder. Battery. Rape. Just kidding lol. I don't think you did anything wrong probably just pay for it lol.

  11. If you rented in good faith and the store, through negligence, failed to remove the lock, then you have nothing to worry about.

  12. No crime... but... if you think you have commited one, is it really a good idea to broadcast it on Yahoo?

  13. If you hire a top rated lawyer, I think he can probably help you escape the death penalty, and get the jury to recommend life w/o parole.

Go to church and try to make your peace with your maker ,in case the attorney fails to convince the jury that you're not a serious threat to society.

If this fails, you might consider paying for the d**n thing.
