i filled up my car and two days later took it for a drive on the highway. the car lost power and the revs were very high. i couldnt go past 70km without the engine sounding ill. i thought it was my clutch slipping but i have taken it to two seperate mechanics and have been told that my clutch is in perfect order. the second mechanics says i could have put a bad batch of fuel in. could this be a symptom of a bad batch or should i take it for a third opinion? ( my car is currently at the 2nd mechanics and he reckons that its running fine with no problems. i am yet to see)

  1. Absolutely, you can get bad gas.  2 weeks ago someone made a mistake and sent 3 trucks out with some kind of contaminated water mixed with the fuel.  1 station sold the bad fuel to at least 10 customers, 2 other stations were stopped just after the delivery.  The cars that got the bad gas sputtered and died with 1/4 mile of the station.  One of them didn't even make to the street.

My father recommends that you don't fuel up at a station that has the delivery truck sitting at it.  The unload disturbs the sediment at the bottom of the tank making it easier to pick up and pump into your car.  This will clog your fuel filters robbing power.

  2. could get a bottle of  octane boost or two  in it

  3. Usually if it's bad gas, the car will hesitate, which could be the same as losing power, but the rpm's reving up doesn't sound right. You could have a computer issue. The only way to find out is to take it to a mechanic who has a diagnostic computer and hook it to the cars computer. Is your check engine light on?
