  1. you can as long as you dispose of it safely.. make sure it covers the cells  there should be fill lines on the side of the battery ..

  2. you didn't *really* add acid to a battery, did you?

and you *think* you put too much?

Go down to autozone.  Ask for a "hydrometer".  It's just a few bucks.

    Test each cell.

It will tell you whether the sulphuric acid solution is too strong or too weak.

Baking soda will neutralize sulfuric acid.

You can use your new hydrometer to lift some out (it works like a turkey baster).

Put the baking soda in a heavy plastic container and a little at a time, drip the excess acid on to it.

And for pete's sake, be careful.

If you haven't already discovered, that stuff will eat holes in your jeans, and it *HURTS* if it gets on you, and it will absolutely blind you permanently if it gets in your eye.

    I'm not exagerating.

When a battery is low on solution, it's because the water has evaporated or boiled out.  Sulphuric acid does not evaporate.  And it boils at some impossibly high temperature, if the battery got hot enough to boil acid, the plastic case melted a long time ago.

You just replace the water with distilled water.  Tap water has minerals that will coat the plates and render the battery useless.

The solution has to be right - if it has too much acid and not enough water, it will fry every electrical component on your bike.

    [note to YZF:

Not rocket science, just a chemical that can burn your skin bad enough to leave permanent scars.

Not rocket science, just your motorcycle, who cares if it works or not.

Not rocket science, just a battery, you got plenty of money, go ahead and destroy it.]

  3. Yes, that will work.

  4. if it is at last 1/4 of an inch below the inside rim of battery hole, then you are okay, if it is above this inner rim then you run the risk of the acid boiling out when in use. So yes if it is more than stated above then use some sort of suction device to remove access acid.

  5. All that hydrometer and baking soda c**p is way over the hedge. just dump some out. wear protective gloves and be careful.

KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid

I'll probably get thumbs down on this but it's not rocket science here people.
