I think if more people buy hybrids, gas will go down. What do you think?

If hybrids get significantly better mileage we'd save a little. I am hoping the manufacturers will improve battery life so they can produce plug-in hybrids. With a plug-in hybrid, I could charge my battery at night, drive to and from work tomorrow without using a drop of gas, then re-charge it again that night. When a significant dent is made in their profits, gas prices could go down.

Unfortunately, we are also running out of oil and there is going to be a lot more competition for it very soon from emerging countries, so demand will still be high. When we really get serious about making other fuels and start hurting their profits, gas prices will drop but not before. As long as there is demand, prices will stay wherever they want them. So buy your gas guzzlers and complain about gas prices like all the rest of us hypocrits.

Well, duh. Less demand, the lower the price. Any simpleton can figure out that. The real problem is: how do we get hybrids/entirely efficient cars out into an affordable market? People are more likely to buy gas guzzlers if they don't have energy efficient cars readily available with all the same features of the guzzlers.

yup, or take public transportation, walk, ride a bike (these are the things i do)

depends on how much the Chinese and Indians take up the slack. We are not the only big users anymore. I'm sure we could make a dent temporarily but then when it's cheaper more emerging countries will see that it's affordable to drive than ever and they, in turn will up the demand. I doubt we'll ever go backwards til something better comes around to burn. Mebbe grains or grass, I dunno yet.

Yes, all other things being equal, lower gas demand will mean lower cost.  

But perhaps people who have hybrids will just drive more since they can afford to.
