I was told at 14-15 that i was 5'10, then i was told i was 5'8, and now my doc is telling me in 5'7!!! I have gain a substantial amount of weigh during that time, could that be the cause?

Or have my docs been wrong? I have measured myself and apparently im 67" tall, which is probably about 5'7, but im still confused, and sad. :( lol

  1. You are not shrinking.  You have been the victim of multiple poorly executed measurements.  You have probably been measured in shoes instead of stocking feet more than once.  You have probably been measured by people who do not know how or do not care if they were measuring you accurately.  I had boots fitted in the military in a similar maanner.  For years, I wore an 8.5, but now a I wear a 10 and feel much better!  My father insists that he is 5' - 10", but I can see that he is shorter than me, and I am 5' - 10".  Incidently, you are just about the average height for a male in the United States.  The average used to be my height, but illegal immigration has made it somewhat shorter.  If I were you, I would worry a lot more about gaining a lot of weight.  Change your diet and exercise, and as you become thinner people (including you) will perceive you to be taller.  It's just the way the eye works!

  2. Your height does change during the day.  So in addition to poor measurements, your back can shrink a bit later in the day.  As you get much older, you do, indeed, shrink.  My Dad, who is about 80, is no longer 6' tall.  He's more my height.
