My 18 mo old has had a fever since friday. Yesterday it sky highed to 104.7 and then dropped to 101.7. Her fever has been up and down and every time she pees in her diaper she tells me and says ouch and her urine smells really bad. i keep thinking her diaper is really full cuz of the smell and then when i check its not that full. I'm taking her to the doctor tomorrow morniing, but is there anything i can do to make the night a little easier on all of us? =)

  1. Poor Thing! Both my girls had these as infants.  It is so very stressing.  You really should take her to the ER.  The fever can be very very dangerous.  I hope she feels better soon...

  2. take her to the doctor, but until then have her drink alot of water if she doesnt like it plain add a little sugar to it, it will flush out the bacteria. change her diaper often to help decrease bacteria.

  3. Take her to an ER, a fever that high is very dangerous. She can have a seizure if its not treated. They will give her an antibiotic and something for the fever.. If you wait to long she can get a kidney infection. Change the diaper as soon as she goes it will only aggravate her more if you don't.

  4. Give her cranberry juice. I always hear how it works well, although I have never had a UTI myself. My friend buys it every time she gets one and it helps clear it up.

    Good luck!

  5. If her fever goes over 101 again i would take her to the ER if i were you. you dont want to mess around with fevers. in the mean time i would try the cranberry juice and when you change her make sure that you wipe her from front to back to help prevent future UTI's

  6. Give her some baby Advil or Tylenol.  It may help a little with the pain and help bring down the fever.  Cranberry juice (to drink) could also help a little, but taking her to the doctor is the best thing to do.

UTIs are pretty common in little girls. She'll start to feel better almost immediately once the doctor prescribes medication.
