My budgie was always a little tempremental but the past like week hes been very very aggresive bitting anyone who got close and even picking on his friend. today I took him out with a glove on to try and get a bit of exercise, I chased him about a bit letting him fly around the house. today though the chase went on for a lot longer he kept flying and squaking he wouldnt let me catch him, when he starting standing on the ground he flapped his wings squaked and ran away, I finally got him into his cage and I noticed his one eye was all red and it he was panting heavly any suggestions besides taking him to the vet, thats not really an option for me, hes a little budgie and the last bird I took to the vet died anyways and I had a 200 dollar bill. At the point where he starts showing illness I have to wonder is he dying and is there anything I can do?

  1. i know allot about animals and the red eye is probably pink eye or mange he may be tired that's why he was panting or he hasn't got allot of exercises lately the aggressiveness is means its mating time or he is going to molt or recently molted

  2. I don't know about the red eye, but he was probably panting from the chase.

He may be aggressive because it may be mating time or he may be preparing to molt (or recently molted?)

  3. He could have gotten the red eye from hitting something. Did you notice when he had gotten the red eye? Anyway, you shouldn't chase a bird, you will keep losing its trust. If you want to let him out, than make sure its safe. Close the door, so he can't go outside of the room. Make sure he can't fall behind a furniture, and just let him out until he's hungry. He will find he's way back to the cage. Birds that are active, like, running, flying, jumping, screaming, and/or singing, is a good sign but if your still not sure and think he's sick, than you might as well take him to the vet. Wait 2days and check if he's eye is getting better and watch him at least 3-6hours a day, to make sure he's doing okay. A lot of birds die when people aren't around. Like when they come back from work, school, and/or friends house, they find their pet dead. So make sure your watching him good. If the eye doesn't seem to get better but only worse, you should take him to the vet.

  4. dont be sad, friend

  5. He probably hit his eye when you were chasing him.The panting or open mouth breathing is from stress and exhaustion.  He will probably recover when he can rest for a little while.  To catch a loose bird it is easiest if you make your house a s dark as possible.  Close doors and drapes...... they can't see in the dark and you can use a flashlight to get a peek at his location then cover the lens and reach for him in the darkness..  It will prevent stress and injuries.  As for his eye,  you could go to a animal feed and supply store and buy eye ointment for around 20.00 (terramyicin) and put a dab on his eye morning and night until it looks better.

  6. Put him in a smallish cage in a quiet room, cover it over, make sure he has food and drink in there- if you are worried about him being really deydrated you can add some electrolites to the water- that will help him become more hydrated. Let him calm down.

How big is the birds cage? are they different sexes? budgies will bite each other if it was really aggressive it may be the other budgie that is sick?

  7. If there is a mirror in the cage get it out your bird will bond and protect that other bird till the end.The panting come from stress don't chase him around if you don't have a net throw a towel over him if you have to.

                                           Things can only get better.

  8. You have no other choice but get him to a vet.

If you cannot afford a vet then you should really not have a pet.
