  1. he might have bird flu or he's getting old

  2. Get a lamp and take the shade off it.  Put the bulb about 6 inches from the bird.  Make sure its in a place where it won't burn anything.

Heat and light can work like Tylenol to a bird.  He may not make it but this will at least make him more comfortable and it may also help to make him better.

Then after an hour try to give him a little food and water.  Don't force it just see if he will l**k a few drops off your finger.

Make sure he can get away from the heat if he wants to but that it is close enough no less then 6 inches from him.

  3. The first guy is a jerk. You sound like you really like pets and are concerned about them. I don't really know what to do about a sick bird, and I would suggest taking it to a vet, but you said you're not sure you can do that. Just keep doing what you are doing and maybe ask a pet store owner what to do. Hope he gets better!

  4. try the PDSA they will help you

  5. Dont pay any attention to what mslucy had to say...that was very rude...She obviously doesnt know what its like to be broke and have a sick pet.  Anywhooo....

Was your bird near a window or anything where he could have caught a cold breeze.  He is definatly sick... Keep him in a warm place with no breeze for now.

Try www.craigslist.com  go to the pets section and post this same question.  There are a lot of people on there that are very knowledgeable about birds and pets..

  6. Your bird seems very sick.  I'm sorry to say this but you're going to have to take him to the vet.  You could call your vet and see if there is anything you can do but if they say you have to go in maybe you can borrow the money from someone.  Hope your bird is OK and good luck!

  7. my bird did that too before she died, just make him feel as comfortable as possible.

  8. Are you sure your bird is a male? Often time females that become egg-bound will sit on the bottom of the cage for a time & their droppings will become quite large/loose looking if nice & healthy green with a touch of white[urine]. Check your birds bottom, see if there is obvious protrusion or messiness from p**p...if there is egg binding the egg will be easily felt sometimes by gently feeling around the bottom area. Much can be done in assisting a female during egg laying...primarily sufficient increase in calcium in diet as well as add to water. Get some calcium shells/grit...you can even use real egg sheels from eggs you eat & wash welll then dry & crumble small as possible add to birds diet. This is good to offer calcium anyway to all birds.

Is the bird fluffed up? Are the nares[nasal area] clear? No mucous? Can you hear any ticking or popping sounds from bird while its breathing as in lungs filling with ease or difficulty? Congestion can be determined, then you can know if bird has caught a chill....etc...all can be treated without too great of expense. Where di you get the bird? Can you talk to the ones who you got the birds from? Maybe they are knowledgeable enough to be of assistance. Go to the nearest health food store & purchase a small bottle of "RESCUE REMEDY" add several drops to your birds water on a regular basis. Call around, it is available in many places...small dropper bottle cost a few$$ but worth spending to have on hand anyway for all your birds. Not knowing many more detailos it is difficult to help you....Go to www.birdboard.com excellent bird site where you can post your question and get replies from many people who are well versed on various avian topics! I strongly suggest you keep the bird, separate from the others, in a warmed, darkened quiet spot...for now....go to birdboard.com if you haven't any vet or money for a vet visit. BUT a vet would be your best bet...I hope your feathered one will be OK...Take care~

  9. Since you can't take him to the vet there isn't much you can do to save him, this is the best you can do:

    1. If you have an eye dropper, get some baby food (I recommend sweer patato) and seed and mash them together and try and feed him from the eyedropper.  It should have enough water concentration that he won't need water, and a large amount of fat and protien for the seed.  Try and feed him every thirty minutes.  As a side note, if your having trouble getting him to eat it, make sure it's not cold, but warm.  About as warm as milk you would give to a baby.

    2. Seperate him from the other birds, and wash your hands between any interactions.  Birds, as part of their evolution don't show any sign of illness untill they are very very ill.

    3. Try and keep him in a small cage or aquarium, with no perches, to discourage movement.  If you have a soft heatlamp use one of those to keep him warm.  Do not allow the temerture to get above 80 degrees Farenhite though.  These birds come from Austraila, they don't like extream heat.

Other than that.... All you can do is wait.

    I wish you the best.
