As per Peters answer - the V5 will not say 'declared new at first registration' on it - it will also show the date of registration in the UK only, so for example, you could have a '95 model car showing date of first registration as 2000.

check on your log book , check year was made against year registered, they some times don't match if car was used aboard first , i had a car from cyprus a few year ago & they didn't match , but i knew it was imported. but your log book should tell you.

if it is an older car then it might have a bolted on Fog light on the back bumper, check if u have it. That is normally a good sign.
