my cat thinks he's a dog. he sit's and waits for his food, begs, rolls over and loves his bath. when you scratch his chest, he does the hind leg scratch like a dog. He also tends to take on stray dogs that wonder into the yard. lately it's a rotweiller but he also has human qualities, he can open the pantry but always closes it when he's done looking. anyone else have a cat who doesn't act like a cat?

  1. My cat acts like a dog too! lol He loves when I scratch his belly, comes when I call, runs out when I yell : "OUT!", plays with the dog and chases our other two cats!

    He's hillarious!

  2. My mom had a dog that thought it was a cat. My neighbors cat had kittens the same time my mom got her puppy. They played together all the time. They picked up the others habits. It was funny to see the dog stalk birds and catch them sometimes. The cats would beg at the table and dig holes in the yard. Sometimes it happens.

  3. Sounds like a cat acting like a cat to me. Cats are easier to train than dogs in most cases. All animals sit and wait for their food when they have a fairly normal schedule. Both cats and dogs scratch with their hind legs... how else would you expect them to scratch?

Cats are extremely territorial, unlike many dogs. Cats will always want to keep other animals out of their yard, other cats and other dogs. My dogs wouldn't try to take on dogs that come into our yard, they'd run up to them and probably just sniff them. Every dog in my neighborhood would be the same way.

Your cat is also being normal when it opens up things. He's keeping himself mentally stimulated. That's not a normal human thing.

The only reason most people don't have cats that will do tricks is it doesn't dawn on them to try to teach it to them. Every cat i had walked on a leash and did a dozen or so tricks. Every cat i know can't wait for meal time and will sit and wait for it. Some even meow if you are late in feeding them. I had one cat who loved to do somersaults.

Your cat seems perfectly normal for a cat to me. But maybe you want to consider him acting like a dog or human?
