Question:

I think my cat is having a reaction to his flea treatment, what can I do to help until I get him to the vet?

I used Adams Spot On Flea & Tick Control (5lbs and over), and it looks to be quite irritated in the area I treated him. We have always used either frontline or revolution, but my mom decided to get this stuff. I plan on calling the vet first thing in the morning, but is there anything I can do in the meantime?

  1. I would wash it off.  The cat will hate a bath but if it were mine it would be bath time.  I would also call the vet and see what they think.

  2. Put an ice cube into a washcloth and tighten it around the cube with a rubber band, so that the cube is covered firmly by cloth, and the bundle behind the rubber band is like something to hold onto.  Dampen the end with the cube and gently hold it against the irritated area....if your vet has an emergency number, call for advice.  You could also try an area hospital emergency room to try to get help.  I wouldn't put soap or anything on it.
