I think my computer has a bit of a problem..?

I've been having problems with my internet for the last couple of days. Everything is acting kind of slower then normal, I can't access hotmail, or facebook. Sometimes when I first open the explorer it will just close the window, etc, etc. It's very clear something is not right with my computer, but I don't know how severe(because I can still use all my programs and I haven't lost any information at all, it just seems like minor glitches here and there), and I would like too know. My norton anti virus subscription ended 2 months ago and I haven't felt like spending the money to renew, and until now I've had no reason too.

What should I do?! If I buy the 08 version of norton will it fix me up, or will it take a little more then that?

Thank you very much for your input, I'm stressed with this and I don't want to shell out lots of money for fixing it. So thank you in advance!

  1. I'd start by scanning for viruses and spyware (yes you'll need an updated version).

    Try out kaspersky: http://usa.kaspersky.com/trials/home-use...

cheaper than norton and also covers malware/spyware much better.

Also has a free trial so you can at least clean up your PC for now.

If you are still running slow make sure your hard drive isn't getting too full or fragmented.

After that you'll just have to start troubleshooting hardware.  I'd start with the ram if it comes to that.

  2. well i got the facebook virus and so i tried Malwarebytes Anti-malware. it has a free version and is very new (it just appeared on Cnet today for reviews). It worked very well and was able to clean it up unlike my norton.

  3. Dude ditch the norton and dont pay em a single dime. Just get the followinf free anti-virus which are Way better and faster than Norton and they never expire.

www.avast.com    Get Home Edition (Its free)

free.grisoft.com   Free also and second best

Both of these software will enable you free updates for lifetime, that means no Expiry.

Scan you system after updating and then let them remove the viruses, Im d**n sure your system is infected.

    Hope I helped you.

    Peace

  4. Hi Peter.

Try to first download combofix and then try to scan your system and if you dont find this try to download stinger and access this application when Internet is not on..

This will surely fix your problem and coming to your Browser problem it is closing because there could be some spyware or malware or adware which is doing all this problem .. so just try to fix this problem. and coming to renewal of Norton.. Its better that you prefer KASPERSKY which really works superbly as even am using the same at house which blocks very well everything...

So make sure the problem is rectified to you...

  5. Surfing the net with an outdated anti-virus program is like going hunting lions with only one bullet in your riffle, you are bound to get multi-attacked and loose the battle.

Looks like the Browser has been  high-jacked. To fix this problem re-install /update the Browser.

If you can't afford Norton's now then get the free AVG antivirus until you can. This will at least protect your system until you can afford to get a paid version. Better yet get Kaspersky instead it's much better than Norton.

  6. Try defrag your computer (It comes with a defragging program, just search for it) or delete any games or programs you installed from either CD/DVDs or the internet. My old computer crashed so bad it took 20 mins to open the start menu, but I just deleted most of the junk I got from internet and computer magazines' CDs. sometimes if you cant go to internet, Windows Defender or Firewall is blocking it, and you need to deactivate it.Website blocking usually messes up the most for me. Oh and you dont need to renew your Norton, if you dont mind taking the illegal path ( the prices THEY charge should be illegal, so I get my own back every now and then ). Go to www.mininova.org and search for your version of Norton Internet Security. You can download the whole version or just the serial key to renew it!!! And no viruses, trust me!!! But you need a torrent program to download it, but they link you to one on every page.
