Hello. I'm Black, and my hair is very long, very thick and very very curly. If anybody knows Sydney Tamiia Poitier (aka Jungle Julia from Death Proof/Grindhouse) my hair is about the length of hers, about hip length in it's curly state. However, my hair is very thick and recently it feels like it's very heavy and feels like it's weighed down a lot even without product and soon my head will start throbbing and usually I will have to put my hair up for a few minutes so it stops. Do you guys think I should cut it and if so, how short do you think I should cut it ? Or if anybody has any suggestions on how to lift the heaviness off of it ? I don't really want to cut it, but I will. Oh, and please nobody suggest relaxers or perms or chemical straightening ? I have never put that c**p in my hair and I will not ruin my hair by starting now. Thanks!

And my hair is natural.

  1. yeah if it becomes painful then definitely cut it.  beauty is pain, but i would never be in pain for my hair.

I grew my hair out really long once, and it is hard to cut it because you become attached to your hair.  But when i cut it i donated it to "locks of love", and it makes it easier to give up knowing that its going to a good cause.

  2. if you want to keep the length, just get your hair thinned out =] it's pretty much just layering the underside of your hair, i think..

  3. DO NOT THIN OUT YOUR HAIR! It ruins it. Trust me, Im black have very long thick curly hair too. I love that you keep it natural too, thats the way it should be =) As for cutting it off?!? No! I would suggest maybe trimming small inches at a time, maybe 3 or so? Or possibley getting a style that cuts the body, like getting it layered. Especially if you just layer the front of your hair like this: it still keeps the length. http://www.leandrotoro.com/upload/2007/0...

Are you sure its the length of your hair, and not a headache from people staring at your gorgeous locks tho? lol j/p

But it could also be a product you put in your hair. I once used an african oil in my hair and relized the fumes were giving me a headache.

Putting my hair up actually gives me a headache, I guess cause  I do it so tight too.

EDIT: lol, well you deserve them, being able to grow your hair without chemically ruining it isnt easy! Keep up the great work, because hair IS work =)

  4. The cause of your headaches may not be from your hair, but it may be. Try getting an inch or so cut off at a time, and if you feel relieve from your headaches, chop it off to your sholders. Good luck!

  5. I think that if your hair is giving you headaches and you don't want to cut it than the best thing for you to do is to get it thinned out. This doesn't involve anything that can damage your hair. It involves a little tool that many hair salons use for their customer's hair. It is great! Just go to a hair salon and ask if you can get your hair thinned. Hope this helps!!
