  1. Yes,the signs you have given are all of the normal,pre-labour signs!

    Not long now.

The rising in temp is a well known sign.

Make sure she has enough water, though up to 12 hours before giving birth the B*tch(The name of a female dog, just to those people who didn't know)will often refuse food & water, shortly after cleaning & feeding the new born pups she should regain hunger.

Hope this helps & the best of luck with your pups!

  2. Wow!  Sounds like she's ready to give birth..

Interestingly enough.. you have *2* b*tches pregnant at the same time?

  3. yup get back to your dog...the first  stage of labor can last a long time like 36 hours at the longest.  If she is not straining she is fine but if she strains to push a puppy and no puppy after an hour you need to contact the vet.

    Good luck

  4. Yeah, I think so.  My dog had her puppies this morning.  Last night she was trying to find a place to hide and she kept walking around.  Good Luck with yours!!!

  5. Sound like you will have puppies soon!!

My dog had puppies 7 days ago! what an experience! She was in labour for too long so I had to take her to the vet. HE gave her a shot of 'oxytocin' and nothing happenned then 20 minutes later a shot of 'calcium' this helped and she popped out 2 pups in the back of my car! 2 visits later we had an ultra sound and xrays to check that all pups were out!

was mighty stressful. My advice to you is to contact your vet. Let him/her know what is happening and if you trust him listen to what they are saying. There is a risk of stilborn pups or even an emergency cesarian section.

Stay with the mom but try not to stare at her. Staring can cause her a little stress making the process longer.

Good luck and enjoy nature at its best!

  6. It sounds very much like it.  You may notice that her waters have broken - she will be very wet around her rear end.  This is an indication that she is very near to welping and usually the first puppy will be born within one hour after the waters break.

You will notice that she will start to give a series of little grunts.  These are her contractions as she bears down to give birth.

The puppies are usually born at 20/30 minute intervals.  She may take a little longer towards the end as she will start to get tired.

Don't allow her to push for more than one and a half hours before alerting your Vet.  She could have an extra large puppy in the birth canal and this will prevent the rest from being born and she may possibly need a Caesarean Section if she is unable to deliver them herself.

Just be on hand to reassure her.  If this is her first litter she may be a little confused as to what is expected of her so act quickly and break the membrane away from the puppy's face and clear the airways of mucous in order for it to breathe.  Once the puppy lets out its first cry the mother's natural maternal instinct will click in and she will do the rest.  After that she will want to attend to her babies herself.

I hope all goes well.  Good luck.

  7. yes she is and the reason she is doing all those thing is because it is un comfy for her to lay and for a while after she has her pup don't take her for walks

  8. Yes, it sounds like she's very close, so she needs to be in her whelping box.  She's rearranging her covers because she's nesting.  She needs to be nesting in her whelping box in a room where the temp. is 85 degrees because new borns can't regulate their temp.

You shouldn't let her outside alone to make sure she doesn't drop a puppy and you need to keep all your whelping supplies handy in the room she's having her puppies in.
