I think my hamster cage is too hot. How can I make it cooler for him?

I use an aquarium as a cage for my hamster and he has been digging up the bedding and sleeping on the glass. He's not sleeping in his little house thing. I think it's because it's too hot? How can I make his cage cooler?

Thank you for answering.

  1. to be perfectly honest, i would just get a barred cage. that way there's ventilation.

    good luck!

  2. i do this with my rabbits all the time!

put a frozen pop bottle(full of water of course)

    and put it in there

if they get hot, they will lean against.

    hope i can help

  3. Turn up the AC or buy a fan.

    Good Luck!

  4. i guess u need to let it get used to were it is so just take out the house thing

  5. get a wire cage, but if that is not an option you can either

    1) remove the cage from any sunlight and move it to a dark part of the room

    2) place ice cubes in the water

  6. Purchase a small fan that can reach the cage or blow on the cage/clip onto the cage and use that on him. Not a large powerful one but a small one that's just right.

That or, you can occasionally spritz him down with a very small spray of water. Not a whole lot but a little. Of course, this is more time-consuming and you'd be best off just buying the fan.

  7. I have a bowl in there with ice cubes and I also make sure they aren't in the direct sun light, Plus I throw in some frozen grapes for them to munch on too.
