I think my hamster is sick ..?

Question

i think she has been sick as her chin and chest i wet as if she's been dribbling !

and i've found a brown coloured liquid around her cage , it's like water but brownish .

i've had her for about a week so i don't have much experience shes about a month old , please help !

it's probably the water bottle leaking, it turns the sawdust brown!

She may have diarrhea OR (this is more extreme) Wet Tail. A hamster usually dies from Wet Tail but don't fret! Please take her to the vet ASAP! We cannot diagnose her. Please do not panic, just take her to the vet. It may be expensive, and it may not be, but if you love her it will be worth it. Good luck and I really hope your hamster is ok!!

Edit: The wetness on her chin and chest may be from her water bottle- when she drinks it probably drips onto her. And if the liquid is around the water bottle it might be leaking. If she is acting normal, that is probably the case. However if she is sluggish (At night, hamsters are nocturnal remember) and looks like she doesn't feel well, take her to the vet. I am sorry your hamster is sick - sounds like she may have "wet tail" disease.  You would need to take her to a vet for a diagnosis; although in my experience - they cannot do much for small rodents (sadly ).

On a simpler note, have you been feeding her lettuce?  Hamsters cannot tolerate much fresh fruit & vegies (ESPECIALLY lettuce) as it can give them such bad diarrhea that they can actually dehydrate & die.  If so - stop all fresh food & just give her regular hamster food.

Hamsters are delicate little creatures; I hope all yours needs is a change in diet.  Good luck with her :-3

this could be wet tail, since one of the symptoms is diarrhea on its underside. If your hammie does have it take it to the vet right away! even only 48 hours after you see the symptoms the hamster can die, but thats not all the time. You can also buy wet tail medications at pet stores but i have not tried them, i doubt they would be very good though.

i think she has wet tail , also if she is not breathing normaly then make sure ur not using pine bedding , the dust makes it hard for them to breathe , so use aspen bedding .
