Question:

I think my kitten is part serval or other wild cat? EVERYONE can help!?

I have just adopted a kitten from Petsmart almost 4 days ago. His name is Jimmy. He is beautiful and just about the best thing I could ask for. He is already fairly adapted to my house and he is very cuddly. Nobody at the adoption center really knows where Jimmy came from. They say he was an orphaned kitten when they found him.

As Jimmy has become more comfortable with my house and me, he has been doing things I have never seen a domestic cat do. When he tries to play with my dog he sort of bounces up and down toward her, not even using his legs. It's very hard to explain, but very interesting. Jimmy has amazing jumping skills already. He's about 4 months and I have seen him jump at least 6 ft straight in the air. He is very intelligent. His paws are huge and unlike a domestic cat's. Jimmy is a darker grey color and he has heavy black striping. His ears are very rounded, not pointed and they come forward on his head. They're not quite as large as a serval's though, obviously.

I will try to post some pictures, but I don't really know how, so hopefully someone can help me with that too? All help is greatly appreciated, but I also wonder if I should take him to the vet for a check up. During it I can ask the vet what he thinks?

For now, I would appreciate no "take him to the vet" simple advice. I would really like your opinion if you think he may be part serval or other wild cat. Also tell me how to post pictures on here!

Thanks. :)

  1. Sorry, I don't know how to post pictures either and though you don't want to hear it, take him to the vet for tests and shots and make arrangements for neutering him, that's the first thing to do with a new pet. Depending on where you live and what sort of wild cats are around a domestic cat can breed with a wild cat. JImmy sounds like a great cat.

  2. I think he is definately a part purebred.  Althought with these, they are bred with hybreds, so their actions are not normal like a domesticated cat.  Only a vet can truly attest to his lineage.

If he is, I would read up on the breed, as they are not an easy breed to handle.  They have the personality of a siamese, but are more on the wild side.

Also, would never purchase a kitten from Petco; these are kitten mill cats.  This was probably from a breeder who breeds substandard cats so they took it to Petco who does not ask alot of questions.

    Lucky he found you.

  5. It's really hard to ans a question about your cat with out pictures.

I really asking the Vet is your best ans.  They would know if it is part serval cat... or just a very high jumping domestic cat.

Post back with pictures... you can ask on another area and they might be able to tell you how to do that.

    good luck
