moved home after college and had to share a room with my 13 year old brother. Mom and step dad renovating VERY old house and asked me to help out financially and labor in fixing up house. Promised that once this was done they would help renovate my room. When this time came mom and step dad turned their backs. I took out a loan to renovate this room. After l year decided to move out on my own as I was not savign any money living with them. Lil brother got the newly renovated room with seperate entry etc. Gave mom and step dad, receipts for tax write off and the houses value increased 20k due to this renovation. Now mom and step dad divorced are divorcing cuz he stole money from her specifically profits from selling the house. The renovation i paid for was discussed and mom received a NICE payout. Has not offered ANY money to me. Is this wrong or not? Should I say something?

  1. If you still have a copy of the receipts, you could technically sue her to get the money back.  If you did not have anything in WRITING, though, it would be basically your word versus hers.  Consider the money gone, as apparently your money was worth more to her than your love...

  2. Say something

  3. deffinty  yes

  4. I think your mom should give you the money you contributed to the  house renovation back at least that, if not a few dollars more as interest, but if I were you I wouldn't hold your breath.

    You could try mentioning the fact that you are struggling financially, but I doubt you'll see any of the money until such time as she shuffles off this mortal coil.

    Good Luck. X :-)

  5. Ask her nicely about it

  6. i think that they owe you;

    and i dont think that its wrong.

    they said they would help you, but they didnt.

  7. I would for sure say something!....you took out money in your name for this paticular upgrade and received NOTHING!....You went into this deal with the right intentions unfortunally I am not sure if you step-dad had the right intentions in mind...needless to say I would  mention to your  mother regarding some type of payment.  You may not receive the entire amount but something is better than nothing right...Good Luck!
