I think my mum is a Hoarder, what do i do?!?

it drives us all mental. does anyone know any counsellers or websites etc?

  1. Hoarding is one of the hardest things to combat. My grandmother is a hoarder, but to combat it we made her throw out everything that was old or unreparible. Its OCD, obsessive compulsive disorder. Its very hard to treat, some psychologist sessions will probably help get to the underlying cause. It usually occurs out of a fear that they will "lose everything" and will try to compensate by collecting as much as possible "for a rainy day".


  2. Don't do anything about it.  Unless it's to the point where it's causing you physical or mental harm, it's not your business.

  4. Hoarding is due to putting lots of emotional attachment to material objects.  Since you only have one mother you should honor and love, spend time with her telling you about the memories from various objects she has saved.  When she is gone you can either donate the items or keep for your own memories' sake.
