Question:

I think my neighbour hit my car - advice?

My car has a large dent in the rear wing and a green scratch at rang rover height. my next door neighbour's green range rover has a new dent on its front wing with silver paint on it (my Audi is silver).

She hasn't said anything to me about it or even looked at me since I noticed it.

What should I do, she’s a good friend and I don't really want to upset her. Although revenge is sweet, perhaps I’ll knock its mirror off with a cricket bat and blame it on my girlfriend. (Joke, I wouldn't really do it.....)

  1. call the police and file a report and have them look at the 2 cars to see if it's matched that she hit it

  2. Just ask her about. All you gotta do is be nice about it, something like. "hey i don't mean to be a prick but, i noticed my car is damaged, and it looks like you hit it cause you have damage as well, could we maybe figure something out?" i'm sure she'll talk to you about it. Just don't go to her house and be like, hey whats your problem....you hit my car lol.

  3. If she was a "friend" she would have notified you about the damage. As of now, this is simply a hit and run. I am assuming you're on the other side of the "pond" so I do not know english laws regarding hit and runs. If they're similar to U.S. laws, then you can call the non-emergency phone number for your local police and explain to them what happened and who you think did it. They'll send out an officer to investigate. You should also contact your car insurance company and let them know the situation.

Good luck. It's amazing what people think they can get away with and it's even more amazing that your "friend" thinks it's okay to take advantage of you like that. I hope it all works out.

  4. confront her about it. if she acts suspiciously or denies hitting your car, go to the police for further investigation. if she's really a good person, she's admit it and agree to pay for the damages. if not, let the law deal with her hit-and-run.

  5. It's possible she didn't realize she did it.

Before making any accusations, implied or otherwise, I would take some measurements, and if the damage lines up, take some pictures that show the damage to each vehicle (take them with the tape measure verifying the height).

Keep the pictures just in case, and then talk to her. If she's an honest person, she will probably acknowledge that she probably did this and work with you to resolve it. If she denies it, she probably isn't really a good friend at all, then you need to decide whether to call the police or just let it go, but you'll have the photos as evidence if she tries to fix hers and deny everything

    good luck!

  6. If she was such a good friend she should have told you about it. I would let her know that you car has a dent in it with green paint on it. Try to tell her while you are near her car and look at the dent in her car. Hopefully she will confess.

  7. You should pretend you haven't noticed your damage and say to her "I noticed your car is a bit damaged, how did that happen?" or something like that. If she doesn't tell you about hitting you, then a day or 2 later say "I noticed a bump on my car...Do you think you might or hit my car by accident?"

  8. mention the damage to her saying how disgusted you feel about society today when someone can damage your car in your drive way. if that does not prick her conscience have a dump on the bonnet of her car, but make sure in your mind you have the right culprit first.
