  1. First of all, I'd need more information to tell you if he really has it.:)

Fin rot will look like your fish's fins are getting torn up and he will press his fin close to his back because it hurts. Of course, there are MANY diseases out there for ryukins-(I had a problem ryukin who I was ALWAYS asking questions about on YA, so I can understand.) So it may not be fin rot. Are there brown, almost burned looking edges? Could be septecemia or necrosis. If his fin looks just torn up, it could have been sucked into the filter or he's being picked on by other fish. Trust me, I thought my fish had tail rot when really the other fish were just nibbling at it.

He could also have velvet or ich, which are little white bumps on his tail and gills. Velvet is a yellowish stain. I'm betting it's tail necrosis, so the medicines I reccomend are:

    Maracide

    Maracyn/Maracyn Two

    or Maroxy.

I had the most luck with Maracyn Two, but you could also just get a general medicine kit or ask someone at your local fish store.

Post more info and I can help you more!!

EDIT: White edges can be a sign of not enough blood getting to the tail, which is either caused by stress, as I said before tail getting caught in the filter, or necrosis. My ryukin had white streaks all throughout his tail once and it was caused by stress and probably the wrong kind of food. Of course, some fish just change color. Anything else going wrong in the tank? It may be too cold or warm for him.

  2. The fins look all tattered. Check the levels in your tank, since its immune system will be weakened.

I used Copper Safe and it worked rather well.

  3. Reddend or inflamed rays: torn or disinigrated fins

add rocksalt and methylene blue with good aeration.

  4. torn tail, tatty sometimes white edges. best thing to cure fish with it is water change water change water change, use dechlorinator before adding any water from the tap back into the tank. most fish disease is due to poor water conditions or bullying, im hoping you dont have common goldies in with your fancies as this will cause them great stress. try doing lots of water changes before you go down teh route of chemicals added to the water. hope this helps.

  5. You need to check out these sites to make sure the symptoms fit (jagged fin edges, holes in fins, etc). If so, then you need to treat with antibiotics available at a pet store (Maracyn, tetracycline e.x.)
