I have a TV, its the old CRT tv's, its quite big, probably like a 28 inch or so.

Anyways, it was working fine like 6 hours ago. I went to turn it on about 15 minutes ago and the sound was working but the video wasn't coming on. Then in about 2 minutes it started hissing and making a WEIRD noise. then it just went into repetition with a weird like hissing noise.. like.. its trying to turn on or something. I unplugged it and tried again. Now its just doing that. making the weird hissing noise.

Did the TV die?

I also swore I smelt something burning for a bit.

This sucks.

  1. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but yes it sounds like your TV crapped out!  Don't waste you time repairing it!  You said it is old, and DTV is going to be mandatory early next year.  Please, please, do not go probing yourself behind the cover!!!  That warning is there for a reason, and even if the TV is unplugged, the are components that hold a charge and can hurt you!

  2. Your TV is dead.  You will have to buy a new one to be able to watch anything now.
