I think smoking should be illegal, any opinions?

I can't stand smoking and lotto tickets, two things that define a bum. I will join the government and make it illegal to smoke outside your house and shut down all lotto. If you want to be a loser, do it inside your house, or else the feds would get you.

  1. YEA IT SHOULD. As a smoke I know they would be cheaper if they were illegal...I am in Canada $10 a pack

  2. there ARE law against smoking in certain places.  But what someone wishes to do with their own body, in their own space, and in their own air,  frankly is their business.(Abortion in certain cases are as well, her body, her business. )

It is when the smoke infringes upon my health, that it is illegal.  (And abortion is indeed illegal, when the foetus has a chance to survive independently... i.e., after the second term... into the 7th month.)

So far, we have adequate laws to protect the health of those of us who do not smoke... and if you have legs, or in a wheelchair, you can move if it is occurring outside.

  3. I can't stand the smell of coffee, should we ban that as well?

The initial problem about banning tobacco is that pretty much every government takes a substantial cut of the cost price in taxation. If they lost this income then how would they make up the shortfall?

The next problem would be that while smokers are a minority, they are quite a large minority, and would quite happily vote against any political party that tried, for as long as they could hold a grudge. Losing 10% of your electoral support is not a good thing for any politician...

  4. I really don't think you would get too far. If smoking and lotteries were outlawed, the government would lose too much tax revenue.

  5. You have not taken into account WHY people smoke outside there house.

What if they have a baby and don't want to harm his small fragile lunges?

you would be messing that baby up by making his parents HAVE to smoke inside.

good luck banning tobacco. I don't see what the big deal is, the hazards are really not that extreme. you want to ban something? try banning alcohol. that kills so many people, a lot of people die everyday who never even touched alcohol because someone drove Drunk.

smoking and lotto tickets don't define a bum, alcohol does. you can't give a bum a million dollars, because he will kill himself with it. Drink himself to death. people are not bums because of tobacco and lotto tickets, and if they are, its a VERY SMALL PERCENTAGE of bums.

I have grown up around second hand smoke my entire life (I am 19 now) and I am perfectly fine, the way I see it is people smoke 1'st hand smoke for 60 years sometimes and never have any side effects, so how the heck could second hand smoke have ANY effect on me AT ALL?

Stop caring about what OTHER people do with there OWN lives...unless it drastically effects the lives of others, like drinking and Driving.

    God Bless

  6. I agree about the smoking, but I still want to be able to play lotto every now and then!

  7. after smoking for 20 years now i can't say that it should be outlawed but i would tell any young person never start smoking it's a very bad habbit .

  8. of course people who are addicted to it are going to say "no"

their minds are clouded with....well SMOKE!

smoking should be illegal, completely 100%!

and the person who said they would mess up a baby...then STOP SMOKING YOU DIMWIT!

I've dealt with my mother smoking like a chimney all my life and it smells horrible, gets ALL over your clothes (even if you walk through the room without stopping)

it is rude and I yell at her all the time...even if we are outside I have to breath through my mouth and can't breath CLEAN air...why should I have to breathe that nasty smoke????

it's bad for your lungs and everyone else's lungs around you!!

anyone who says otherwise is bullcrap!

  9. For people like you that feel compelled to force their will upon others, it is fine when the government nanny state is in line with your values.  What happens when it isnt?  Part of enjoying your own personal liberties is allowing others to have the liberty to make their own decisions, even if you find them meritless.  A good policy for you to adopt could be mind your own business, and drop the totalitarian chip off your shoulder.

  10. I think we should make every last thing that you personally enjoy illegal.  Then we'll see what you think about making things illegal.

  11. amen...........

  12. As a smoker, I agree smoking tobacco is a danger to the public health.  I would like to say, though that it would be better to start it as a controlled substance, and allow nicotine addicts to get it on a prescription.
