I got my betta fish (BUBBLES) 6 days ago at a petsmart. His water was filthy, but i chose him because he was the most responsive and healthy- looking fish there. but when i got home i noticed that there was a weird looking bump above his mouth with a white dot on it. For the first couple of days i was extremely worried about it, but i stopped worrying because he was eagerly exploring his new home and was alert, but he still wasnt eating, probably because he was still adapting. he was still ok after i changed the water in his 1-gallon twice(i know its bad, its a long story, but i'm getting a 3-4 gallon tank with filter and heater this weekend). I changed his water for the second time yesterday, and normally he makes bubble nests right away but this time he did not. He is still active and loves exploring and swimming around. but i noticed a white dot on top of his head, and 2 white lines on the side that the first bump was on. He STILL isnt eating! he does seem a little more tired but hes still very alert and active. I dont want 2 stress him out by putting in uneeded meds. I do let the water sit out for 48 hrs and add declorinator. so i think i'm gonna buy some aquarium salt 2. wat do u think my fish has? does he even have anything? wat caused the white spots? will the bigger tank and aquarium salt help? should i worry? please just help me as much as u can!!!

  1. take him back to where you bought him.... and they can tell you what is wrong and what he may or may not need.... that is what i did with my betta...... i just dunked a glass into his tank and he swam in and off we went..... they told me what he need and he was fine........

  2. Youre fish has a disease and its slowly dying. No joke either I had a red blood parrot fish with the same problem and it died after awhile. It takes them awhile to die though

  3. My betta is named bubbles to, CHANGE HIS NAME!lol! jkjk

Sounds like some sort of fungus...

  4. I'm not even gonna read all that...but my beta Ariel has been livin in a glass bowl for 2 yrs...no filter, no heater, only a stick of bamboo and some rocks and a little figurine from finding nemo--the little turtle guy. I went of vacation several times and did not feed him unitl i got back and he is still kickin it...just feed him. he doesnt need all that bs attention. thats why kids get beta cause they are so easy to deal with... just feed. I used distilled water in his bowl...not water from the sink but that is the only thing

  5. Forget the aquarium salt-- you're dealing with columnaris, which is a bacterial infection most effectively treated with medications.  Remove the activated carbon from the filter and begin treating with Maracyn 2, Maracyn TC, Furan 2, Triple Sulfa, Trisulfa, Kanaplex, or acriflavine based medications.  If using medications with tetracycline or minocycline as active ingredients, be sure to keep the tank dark, as these drugs degrade with exposure to light.
