We have a 9 week old kitten who for the first 4 weeks was kept in his own bedroom room until he became "more coordinated." At about 5 weeks we cleaned "his" bedroom well with cleaning prodcuts and slept in there and let him have the house to roam in himself, we would not let him in our bedroom and it was not until about 2 months ago that we decided to let him roam around in our bedroom and ever since then,

my daughter and I started sneezing, and for the past month or so my daughter has had a cold and now she has another cold, runny nose, watery eyes, and a chesty cough.

I have of course have been sneezing a lot, and most recently my face broke out in tiny little hives, which are still there (but do not itch as much.)

I am satrting to think that she is allergic to cats, she is 3.4 and I so not want to jeoprodize her health, so I think that I might have to give kitty away

What should I do? Any Solutions? How do I know for sure that she is allergic to the cat? Could it be something else?

  1. No your allergic if u really love the cat alot give it to someone you know so you can vist it always!!

  2. Find a family member that will take good care of the cat and disinfect your home.

  3. Personally, I would go to the doctor and see if there's an allergy test that can be taken to rule out things other than the cat. Also see if there is any medication that can be taken to lessen the reactions or even make them go away completely.

You do not want to be one of MANY people who assume it's a pet allergy, gets rid of the pet, only to find out the allergy still remains and it wasn't the pet at fault.

  4. Very well might be allegies...I have cat allergy really bad...causes asthma.  For you they do sell over the counter Zyrtec that works great....however, you have to take it everyday for the life of the cat.  Your daughter is pretty young for allergy meds....I am pretty sure they do not recommend for young children.  Only way to tell would be to have yourselves tested by an allergist...they can also give you the best advice....My 2 daughters both go for weekly allergy injections...they started getting them at around age 6....and they work wonderful. Good luck....(cats are the most allergic animal)
