I THINK THAT SCHOOLS SHOULDN'T ONLY TEACH EVOLUTION, THEY SHOULD GIVE THE STUDENTS DIFFERENT THEORIES, & LET THEM DECIDE WHAT TO BELIEVE. I WANT TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, BUT I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START. I ALSO WONDER IF OTHERS FEEL THE SAME WAY AS I DO. I WANT TO HOMESCHOOL MY DAUGHTER BECAUSE OF THIS...IT'S JUST NOT FAIR TO TRY TO BRAINWASH MY CHILD TO BELIEVE SOMETHING THAT SOMEONE JUST DOESN'T KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT.

  1. You know, all theories include creation myths from all the world's religions.  Not just the Christian creation story.

Additionally, you would also have to include the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

  2. Schools teach evolution, and churches teach creationsim.  If you want to brainwash your child into creationism, take her to church.  Then, she will learn both and can decide for herself (or in most cases - decide which theory the parent pushes them into believing).  Just relax and let her stay in school.

  3. My husband's mother went into his Biology class to speak about creationism.  My parents let the schools educate us. They chose the school system. Evolution is based on facts. It may not be completely correct but at least it has real evidence to back it up. It's not pulled out of thin air. One thing that schools do is to teach students how to think for themselves.

  4. The only problem with that solution is that the other theory usually cited in such cases, creationism, is highly pro-Christian and would probably violate the separation of church and state. If it's that big of a problem to you, though, go ahead and homeschool your child if you can handle the workload.

Also, evolution is the only theory with a scientific basis, which is why it's usually taught in Science. Teaching non-scientific theories in a Science course would be illogical.

  5. I agree, but the problem, public schools aren't allowed to teach the religion aspect of it. Separation of Church and State. Unless they got the ok from the parents, but, the School Board would never allow it to get that far.

  6. Homeschooling has to follow state education mandates as well. It may not matter if you pull your daughter from the school- because evolution is still a part of the required curriculum that you have to teach her.

You can teach her the alternative theories that you believe in at home. And you can explain why you don't agree with evolution. But she is going to have to learn about evolution at some point in time because it is covered in science classes straight through college. She doesn't have to agree with the material, but she needs to lean about it.

And evolution in the curriculum is not going to go anywhere. If anything recent legislation has cemented it's place in academics.

  7. Umm, when people say facts and evolution together it's a standing oxymoron. Evolution is a THEORY that has yet to be proven!

Fact 1- Why aren't there any transitional species in any of the earth's strata ? If evolution did occur there should be thousands upon thousands of transitional species in earth's strata. As a matter of fact, there should be gradual changes in each species as one moves from lower strata to the upper crust. But there's NOT ONE!

Fact 2- Why do we still have a missing link ? Surely If man did transition from ape it didn't happen just once, right ?! Or are we to believe in Macro-evolution ?

Fact 3- The Law of Biogenesis- in laymen terms the Fact that living matter can not be formed from non-living matter. Or living organisms can only arise from other living organisms. This flies in the face of Evolution; because where did the amoeba come from then ?

There are so many more facts that have broken the spine of evolution but yet it is still taught in schools as the gospel. Fortunately, we are fearfully and wonderfully made by a living God.

ps- Physics is the 800 pound gorilla that no scientist wants to even mention with regards to evolution! Law of conservation, The first law of thermodynamcis! the list goes on and on!

  8. i dont think there is anything wrong wit it. in fact i just finished learning about evolution in my school. they aren't forcing us to learn it. i think my whole class was very interested in it. especially me. its very interesting and fun to learn about.  u shud let ur daughter try learning about it.

  9. In my experience, the public schools do touch on creationism when they discuss different religions, cultures, and their beliefs.  Part of coming of age is learning to listen to everything, learn all you can, and use what you need.  Don't be afraid of ideas different than your own.  Use them as a discussion starting point.  Good luck.

  10. This sounds more like a "Religion and Sprituality" question than one for the the Special Education category.
