I think the stoppage of the Penn, Sherk fight was BS....?

Don't get me wrong I am a big Penn fan, and not much of a fan of Sherk but even I have to admit that the stoppage was kinda c**p. The round was over let Sherk recupe ( sp) between rounds. I still think Penn would have won either way but it would have made for a better fight. Sherk actually pretty bad this fight not his old self, I believe he was scared of Penns ground game and didn't think that Penn's stand up was a good as it was. I for sure see a Penn vs Sherk 2 though.

I'm pretty sure that Sherk sat there looking beaten because he thought the ref ended the fight, instead of what really happened which was the round was over. Sherk said it himself in the post fight interview that he never even heard the bell (meaning he thought it was randomly stopped).

Anyway, great win by BJ.

I thought it was a good stoppage, only because the ref looked like he was about to stop it right as the round ended anyway.

He got dropped and pounded in the face over and over, who wants to see that go on, and sherk wasn't fighting back.

I think it was a good call and Sherk didn't seem to be surprised at the end either.

Pretty exciting fight though.

Actually the official announcement was that Sherk was unable to continue.  He got pretty rocked by that knee and I think he may have broken his right hand in the middle of the last round so that may have had a lot to do with the stoppage.

I agree with you though I would have loved to see Sherk get some more punishment in round 4 but this will definately lead to a 2nd fight.

Now I'm looking forward to Penn vs. St. Pierre 2.

Yamasaki should have waved it off BEFORE the bell.

Sherk: "I didn't even hear the bell..." That tells me he was pretty well out of it.

Fighter needs to demonstrate that they are ok to answer the bell for the next round. Laying on the ground, unsure of what's happening isn't ok.

Obviously as a fan I always want the fight to go on and maybe it could have but I think it was a fair stoppage.  One of the last punches BJ landed to his jaw when Scherk was on the ground really hurt him,  and you can kind of see his eyes go into the back of his head.  Go ahead watch it again in slow motion.  I don't think we will see Penn vs. Scherk 2,  Scherk can't beat him and Penn keeps on getting in better and better condition then Scherk would get beat worse next time.

If u watched the replay the ref was gonna step in but he hesitated cause he thought the horn would sound and it did...the fight got stop because the ref said he(sherk) couldnt fight anymore.  Way to go BJ!

I don't think Sherk was even able to return to his corner and that's why it was stopped. BJ had a shutout going anyway. You trying to get the Steroid Shark Sherk killed?
