Question:

I think the woman who sold me my kitten may have told me the wrong age?

I have a lovely little affectionate ginger kitten. I think he's around 4 months old - had him for about 6 weeks. He's very excitable but also very loving too. He's just very small for his age - about 2lbs 7 ounces and hasn't really grown that much in the time I've had him.

When I got him the lady said he was 9 weeks - he still had blue eyes (although these have changed now to greeny hazel) and was very scrawny and kitten-ish. I couldn't quite hold him in the palm of my hand and she told me he was okay with solids but just to soften them with a little kitten milk. He also kneeds me a lot and loves still to be at my neck cuddling and is clingy. All lovely but I'm just wondering, as he's so small, whether he's actually much younger?

Thanks

  1. Sounds adorable :)

When he loses his two baby canines - large side pointed ones (incisors) - he is considered to be about 6 months old.

Maybe ask her just out of curiosity how big the other kittens are.

Your vet will be sure to let you know if anything is wrong but hopefully he is just going to be small and cute as a button.

    Good luck!!

  2. you seem to have a real winner.  cat/kittens vary widely in size and weight.  If you bought him there should be papers of some kind as well as vet info which would have the dob. enjoy your loving kitten.

  3. Either he is actually 3 months old instead of 4, or he's kinda underweight.  If your cat still looks like a little fluff-ball, then he's not really 4 months. If he's got a kitten's face with a long body and big paws, then that's probably 4 months.  I have a 4 month old kitten that weighs 5lbs. He had a huge growth spurt when he turned 4 months old but now he's almost five months... Maybe your kitten will start growing much faster in a couple weeks.

  4. My cat is now 2 1/2 years old, and still very small for a full grown cat. Very healthy, but she's never been very big. It works out great because she's an apartment kitty, but some cats are smaller than others. If you are concerned about her growth, a vet should be able to help you with info when you take her for shots or to have him neutered (should you decide).

  5. That sounds just like my cat. He was a scrawny little thing when I got him and he's still very little and he's 11 months old. Maybe it was the runt of the litter? I don't see why she would lie to you. Although mine could fit in my hand and it was only afew weeks old.
