Question:

I think this year we're having the most natural hazards than any other; how does this relate to climate change

how do all of these hazards build on the climate change around the world? or is climate around the world changing at all? we have earthquake in China; deadly tornadoes in US and Myanmar; around the Northeast we usually have heavy snowfall in winter...this year we barely did. how do all of these affect our yearly seasons?! if you can do a research on it, would be great. but i'd really like to know about it. Thank you! you'd learn from it too =)

  1. Perceptions can be misleading.  While you are currently aware of numerous natural disasters around the world (because they're getting a lot of press and are fresh in your memory) that doesn't mean they are actually on the increase.  They may or may not be, it would require some statistical analysis before we could actually know.

The tornado frequency is definitely above average this year in the US, but there's actually been very little science that would attribute that to global warming.  Earthquakes, as well, are probably not related to global warming.

  2. I don't see how earthquakes can be caused by global warming.  Tornadoes I'm not too sure about either.

The cyclone in Burma was made 1000 times worse because the government there did not give the people enough warning, and has been hindering releif efforts.

  3. Ken hit this one on the head.

Though I do have to comment on the tornado season this year: an active tornado season is commonplace in la nina years. This is a la nina year...

Oh and the Myanmar tragedy had more to do with little to no warning system and widespread poverty in the area rather than a GW induced "mega cyclone" (I believe it was a category 3--not especially strong).

  4. Ignore all the serious and well intentioned opinions about GW. Instead, think of it for what it is.   A "natural" cycle of mother earth. For 10,000 years of civilizations momentous and fantastic advancement, the environment on earth has been "stable" and perfect for evolution of humanity and technology.

Now, earth is entering a period, a natural one note, where there is greater "instability" and weather patterns will be more intense. That's it !   Nothing any one or any nation(s) can do will reverse or even be an obstacle to the changes we will be witness to.

Fundamentalists will wail "end times", the scientific groups will scream "told you so" and the "naysayers" will...................

well, we won't remember who they were even.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the show that mother earth is about to show you. My money is on a Category 6 Hurricane within 3 years, that hits the southern U.S.

  5. There is ZERO evidence suggesting that any natural catastrophe can be linked to AGW. Actually, there is zero evidence supporting the man made theory to begin with.

By your theory, we obviously have NO AGW since the 2 previous years had very little activity. Why is it no activity means nothing, and some activity means AGW?

  6. Yes, global warming has the biggest effect on our climate. Since the oceans currents control our weather, global warming affects them. The oceans currents are getting messed up by global warming (to much fresh water from melted ice in the salt water oceans) which cause natural disasters to occur when they shouldn't. It will eventually get worse until the Earth "restarts" itself via ice age. All the earth quakes and freak tsunamis that are ocurring are caused by global warming, which causes much more natural disasters. Also Ken suggested there is no statistics to back up that we are having much abnormal weather. There actually are statistics on weather from many different places. If there were worse tornados then the ones earlier they would have been recorded. There may have been worse, but have there been worse or even the same level of a tornado accompanied by a tsunami in a diff. country, weird snow fall, or mass earthquakes? Not since the last ice age to be sure. Look at it as a global thing, not just a country. Abnormal weather happening all over the world at the same time is not normal.

  7. NATURAL HAZARDS=NOT HARDLY, BUT UNNATURAL DISASTERS AND CLIMATE CHANGE, IS DONE BY NATURE AND BECAUSE OF TO MUCH OF THE SUNS RAYS IS DISTURBING A NATURAL PATTERN IN NATURE THATS THROWING OFF ALL NORMAL WEATHER PATTERNS.  IT'LL GET WORSE BEFORE IT GETS BETTER AND IT CANT GET BETTER UNTIL WE THE PEOPLE START THE GLOBAL SOLUTION. http://www.socyberty.com/Activism/First-...
