I have a male and female rabbit that have been living together and until 3 weeks ago i thought they were both girls, i have separated them and had the boy neutered, i took the girl to the vets to see if she was pregnant the vget said she felt like her stomach was slightly swollen but didnt know for sure so we waited and then on thurday she started making a nest i gave her extra hay food and water and left her to it i checked her bedroom a coupld of times but nothing showed up! now she had messed up the nest and is spending more time in the day part of her hutch although i think her stomach is still bigger ive never been able to tell for sure could this have just been a phantom pregnancy? is it safe to put the boy and girl back together?

  1. My rabbit did the same thing she would act like she was pregnant and start building a nest but then go back to normal...and she hadn't been in contact with a male even.

I think it would be alright to put the male and female back together.....but just keep an eye on them for awhile as the female especially can be agressive towards the male ...so you might need to keep them seperated now..

    hope that helps

  2. hi there yes i think she has had a phantom pregnancy i have a rabbit that is just getin over one clean out her bedroom and remove all the fur to and put the buck back in with her!! but watch because she mite want him to mate her and he cant do the job so u mite have to go and mate her up with a male rabbit so that she can get over this!!! i mated up my doe so she will settle down now!!

  3. it could have been or she might not be ready to give birth yet.

I would take her to your vet agin just to be sure.

You could also ask if it is safe to them together again.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Gestation period is 28-35 days so you should find out quite soon!  Keep a close eye on both bunnies and give them plently of attention, exercise and love.

I would also recommend getting your female neutered as soon as possible as this dramatically reduces the risk of uterine cancer.

It should also keep your rabbits on speaking terms!  I have a male and female, the male was castrated as soon as I got him but I left the female until she was a year old (on advice from the vet) They were previously the best of friends but very suddenly began fighting and I haven't been able to keep them together since.  I suspect her hormones were to blame, (or perhaps the male called her fat or something!)
