Yes, this is true, but up for interpretation.  The ribbon shows how Bella is torn between her two loves: Edward and Jacob.  Choosing one pulls her away from the other.

It could also be about her future path, as well.  If she chooses to become a vampire, she can no longer be friends with Jacob, for vampires and werewolves are enemies and cannot stand each other.  Thus, she could be on the side with Edward separated from Jacob, and vice versa.

If you notice carefully, the ribbon isn't totally separated yet.  So this could be during the climax where Bella is confused about her feelings for both, and her feelings for them are hanging by a thread.  Literally. ;D
