Recruiter says you get your choice of job, people else where say you put four jobs down and rarely get your first choice....

if that is the case, what is the point of DEP?

  1. You sometimes get the job you want usually only 20% of Air Force recruit pick a job before basic. They will give you a general category.

  2. Because the AF cannot handle the number of people wanting to enlist.

So with DEP, they get them signed up and can stretch out the time, they go to basic.

It also gives them the time, to slot people for basic, so they don't have a wait of longer than two weeks after basic, before their tech School class starts.

Most people forget or do not know, Tech School class's do not start every week,

Some Tech Schools only have two new class's a year.

So anyone wanting those jobs, has to wait awhile, before they can go to basic, waiting for a new class to start.

  3. Only if you qualify and pass the schooling you attend.  But they may think you're better qualified for something else.

  4. What makes you think otherwise?

  5. DEP is just the waiting period before you can ship out to basic training and school.

the AF does indeed do things a little differently.. you enlist for an AREA, not a specific Job.

  6. When i went in, it didn't matter whether you did delayed entry or immediately enlisted. The only branch you could get a guaranteed MOS is in the Army. Other than that, the closest you'd get would a be a guaranteed field like medical or aviation.

Such as... I had a friend who joined marines to fly helicopters and they told him NO PROB. He ended up a gas attendant for the helicopters instead.

Check with the recruiter and ask them point blank if it's changed cause that was recent...only 4 yrs ago.
