The Catalan tactician has revealed that he had already decided to part ways with the Spanish giants earlier in the season.
While saying goodbye to current UEFA Champions League title holders, Barcelona’s former manager, Pep Guardiola, revealed that his plan to depart from the Nou Camp is not immediate and added that he had taken the club’s president, Sandro Rosell, into confidence
before taking this decision.
In a press conference on Friday, the Spanish mentor made his intentions clear, to give up his position as the head of affairs at the Nou Camp.
The news has come out as a shock for many football fans across the world, as it has become almost impossible to imagine La Blaugrana without Guardiola.
In addition to bidding farewell to the Catalan club, the 41-year-old took out time to reveal other information regarding his exit from the current Spanish champions.
Guardiola stated that the realization of managing a team at Barcelona’s level for four years is the vital factor that helped him reach a decision. The manager revealed that he had decided against renewing his contract with the Catalan giants early in the
current season’s campaign.
He also exclaimed that he disclosed his intentions to the club’s supremo and explained to him that his reign at the Catalan capital is coming to an end.
He also stressed that he was unable to let the players know about this as he was cautious about how it would affect them.
The 41-year-old took over the reins at Barca at the beginning of the 2008-2009 campaign and has managed to lead the club to great success during his tenure as the manager. Guardiola won 13 trophies in four seasons as the head coach of the Spanish giants.
While addressing the press, the Spaniard quoted:
“Four years makes everyone tired. I told the president that my era was nearing its end around September or October. The new coach will be able to give things I'm not able to give any more.”
"Talking to the press and players for four years is very demanding. Perhaps we wouldn't have gone wrong, but I had a feeling that we would. I know what I'm leaving - that it's the best place, but it's the right time."
As Pep Guardiola waves his goodbye to the club he managed for four years, it will be fascinating to see which football club is going to be his next destination.
