  1. Time can be made up during taxi, maneuvering during the departure, enroute, and during the arrival.

  2. Wind usually blows from west to east. You were flying east so you probally picked up some good tailwind. Wind can get up to 200 mph at some cruising altitudes.

  3. Jetstream, tailwinds. These speed you up.

  4. As someone else mentioned..you were flying over the Pacific Ocean..

    - it is likely u caught a nice tailwind..flight time can change as forecasted winds might change..

    - earth rotates so the ground is actually moving west to east underneath u speeding up ur flight further..

  5. porbably caught the jetstream tailwind.

  6. beneficial winds, time zones and u mean trans-pacific

  7. Two things, first off, the quoted flight time is based on a maximum endurance profile. They plan the trip to fly at optimal fuel burn. If you're running behind, it's usually no big deal to bump up the throttles to max cruise provided you have the fuel for it. Nobody likes having a long duty day, so the crew is usually more than happy to do it.  Second, as others have mentioned, is you more than likely also got a nice push from a jetstream.

  8. no you didn't.

  9. Strong tailwinds.

  10. most flights have a certain route planned by the captain.

on this case the captain may of asked the local atc to take a small shortcut.

  11. Eva,

First of all, you were flying over the Pacific Ocean, not the Atlantic.

Flight schedules are made with some slack time in them so that if winds are favorable, the aircraft speed can  be reduced to save fuel. Occasionally, winds are better than normal, so that the aircraft can arrive earlier than anticipated on the schedule. Also, the dispatcher may ask the crew to fly a little faster to make up the time.

Over 14 hours a small increase in speed and favorable winds  would allow for a 2 hour makeup in  scheduled time.

    Regards,

    Dan

  12. you are crossing time zones and the time is different by an hour when you do.maybe two hours  if daylight savings time.

  13. You crossed a different time zone.
