Question:

I took my car to get it smogged?

It passed on everything except the emissions test, the weird part is that it passed going 25 mph but it didn't pass going 15 mph, so I had the car looked at and I was told it needs a tune up because it burns too much gas at a lower speed, and the oil was in desperate need to be changed.

Is there something else that could cause emission failure that I need to look at? because it cost me $41.50 for a failed test and its going to cost me $30 for a retest, so I want to be sure I fix the problem I don't want to waste $30 thats almost a whole tank of gas for my car. I'm 18 and I'm on a tight buget.

  1. BEFORE you get your car smog tested, you should run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner.  Most of the time that will do the trick.  But I would guess it is too late for that (for you) - because you would have to run a whole tank of gas to clean it.  So remember that for the next time.

    Good Luck...

  2. That sounds like stuck EGR valve. When it's completely cold, I say completely, find it and put 2 fingers in and see if you can move the little rod back and forth. If it's stuck, you'll most likely fail.

  3. Okay,  the smog tech should have given you a printout of your results.  Replace the parts that didnt pass the inspection and go back to the same place or if you want go to a different shop that has a "Pass or Free Retest"  sign outside

  4. You should try actually smogging your car - smoke marijuana in it.
