They found that his white blood cell count was too high so theirs a sign of infection.. they gave me an antibiotic, clavamox, today hes not very energetic... Is that normal and do you think it will stop him from spraying?

  1. Possibly. Cats spray when something unsettles them, so maybe once the infection clears he will be comfortable again and stop it. Then again it could be anything else that suddenly unsettles him, like a new baby, house move, ....

  2. The antibiotic might cause him to be a little bit less active than normal but should not cause a significant reduction in activity level. If he seems lethargic, has a decrease appetite, hiding or sleeping more than usual, please call your vet and express your concern. Spraying has very little to do with illness although stress can be a contributing factor. There really isn't a medicine that will stop your cat from spraying.

This is a natural act when a male cat are exhibiting territorial markings. However, there is a synthetic pheromone product called Feliway Comfort Zone that may help reduce the incident of spraying. You may find this product useful and it is safe to use and recommended by vets.
