I hit the ball towards covers and ran> i completed the run safely and i ran a few extra steps. On my way back i accidently clipped the stumps on the non strikers end. The umpire gave me out saying hit wicket and the ball was still in play. Can some one get out like that?

  1. No, the wicket has to be broken in the act of playing a shot to be out hit wicket, which you clearly were not doing. The following is an extract from the MCC web site and the laws of the game:

    2. Not out Hit wicket

    (b) If it occurs when he is in the act of running, other than in setting off immediately for his first run.

  2. Asa per Law 35 of Hit wicket, the decision of the umpire was wrong in your case.

Please check the following link for explanation of Law 35:

  3. Stop posting these lame *** **** **** Qs loser. You were obviously not out...We dont give a fuckwit!

  4. i dont give a s**+*

  5. No, you shouldn't have given out, the umpire doesn't know the rules:

The striker is out Hit-wicket if, after the bowler has entered his delivery stride and while the ball is in play, his wicket is put down by his bat or his person. The striker may do this whilst preparing to receive or receiving a delivery or in setting off for his first run after playing the delivery. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hit_wicket

Notwithstanding 1 above, the batsman is not out under this Law should his wicket be put down in any of the ways referred to in 1 above if

    (b) it occurs when he is in the act of running, other than in setting off immediately for his first run. http://www.lords.org/laws-and-spirit/law...
