Can I register the car in my name in the state of MD? I carry valid insurance on the vehicle

  1. You cannot register the car in your name until it is your car.  In most states, anyone can insure any vehicle the desire to insure.  Ownership is not required to insure a car.  Any insurance you do place on the car, will have to show the loan company as the lienholder though.  For your Aunts sake, It would be better for you to legally buy the car and get your own loan.


  2. the only way to do this is for you and your aunt to go to the bank and you apply for a loan for the amount of what is owed on the car. The bank will then switch the title into your name and give you a fascimile of the original title in your name.
