I tried everything I know to reset my IP address. Even a big storm did not change it when the ?

cable was out. I guess comcast uses fixed IP's >

  1. Most ISP use static IP's. The only way I know to change it is to call your ISP tech support and request it. Our ISP, (satellite internet sucks btw), allows up to 5 assigned IP addresses per account. But the addresses are assigned when you sign up, and have to be changed with tech support.

    EDIT:

    The release and renew thing, is for resetting your LOCAL IP, it has nothing to do with the IP that the rest of the internet sees. That IP is assigned by your ISP, and only ISP tech support can help you.


  2. Open the command prompt and type ipconfig /release and hit Enter.  Then type ipconfig /renew and hit Enter again.  You should now have a new IP address.
