I tried to hook up my old desktop that I haven't used in months to dial-up, and I keep getting Error 678?

It keeps giving me Error Code 678. I called AT&T Tech Support, and they are clueless! I plugged my wireless card into it, however, and it worked fine. Are there any programs I can download that will diagnose why its not connecting?

  1. That indicates that something is either wrong with your modem, or your modem is not properly connected.

  2. hmmmmmmmm.actually   m geting the same prblem......with dial up...........but it conncts after 5 min.......manually..................chec... ur settings oif internet..like IP address......................nd try to make a netwrk conection icon that shows u u r connected with area network..then go 2 property of that wizard nd.............check out 4 IP address......gudluck....this should work.....i have done the same................

  3. Try the steps suggested in this Microsoft help page. My guess is that you probably need to reinstall the modem so that its drivers are refreshed. If possible you should probably try to find the most up-to-date drivers for it and use those when you reinstall.
